January 27, 1946, in New York City, she grew up in Spanish Harlem and formed the group as a teenager with her cousins Ronnie Spector and Estelle Bennett. Together, they became one of the defining acts of their era, contributing to the popularity of the girl group sound.
The Ronettes gained recognition in the early 1960s with a blend of pop, rock, and R&B. Their well-known songs include “Be My Baby,”
Baby, I Love You,” and “Walking in the Rain,” all of which highlighted their distinctive harmonies and style.
